Chinese Halloween, Zhongyuan Day(3)

The third popular activity is to drop latern on the river. On this day, the gate between this world and the other world opens, and many ghosts are wandering. We need to make small laterns to guide the ghosts to where they supposed to be. And the water, in Chinese culture, represents the other world as it belongs to "yin"(the opposite of "yan". And the two form Taiji). It's fun for the kids as well as adults.

There're also other activities. As I said, different place different ones. But
usually, people become more serious in Zhongyuan Day, and are reluctant to go out at night as the ghosts are wondering. The kids are supposed to go to bed early to avoid being reduced by the ghosts.
